I really like the way Kakarot uses Ki, combining it with both helpful and offensive defensive techniques, making it a vital rechargeable resource during battle. Managing Ki is also very important, as your ki meter not only dictates your use of special movement, but also your ability to use vanishes to instantly get close and punish projectile attacks, your ability to use super dash and to tracking enemies after knocking them down, your ability to use a blast of energy to knock back an opponent just as they’re about to break through your guard, and of course your various transformations, including the switch to Super Saiyan.
You’re always locked into and attached to your opponent, allowing you to get in, out, and orbit around them in the air with ease, and you can switch between targets with a flick of the right joystick. Combat is straightforward, focused on one-button combos and a customizable selection of four special moves, but loaded with little niceties that go a long way in preventing the action from getting thoughtless.
